I cannot believe that midterm is already here and that we are already a month and half into our musicianship goal. Unfortunately, I am not progressing as much as I would have liked to have been by now, but that being said I am so proud of how far I have come in such a short amount of time. Prior to this music class, I had not picked up a guitar since my grade 7 music class and that was 12 years ago now.

The hardest part for me so far throughout this journey would have to be learning the strumming progression of my song, as well as learning the chord changes. When it comes to strumming, I am still finding it difficult to strum and change chords at the same time. I am also struggling with keeping my strumming pattern on beat to the song, which is something I will need to continue working on in the next half of the term. As for chord changes, I have since mastered changing from an Em chord to a G chord but am now struggling with changing from a G chord to a D chord. I find that I still need to look at my hand positioning when changing from G to D, which can sometimes cause me to lose my place in the song.

In my musicianship goal, I had stated that I would be able to successfully play my first song “Pumped Up Kicks” and have learned the chords for my next song. At this point in my journey, I am still struggling a bit with my strumming and am slower with my chord changes then I would have liked but am very proud of how much progress I have made this far. I have started to learn Am and C chords but have still not mastered them completely.
